Welcome

RT. REV. BENSON B. ONYEIBOR, JP;
First Bishop of
Abakaliki Diocese
 (Anglican Communion)

A new time and season is dawn in Abakaliki Diocese. It is memorable to cite that Anglicanism in Ebonyi State is 48 years. Noteworthy is the fact, Anglican Diocese of Abakaliki is marking her 10th Anniversary Celebration with the Presentation of this book tagged “ HISTORY OF ANGLICAN CHURCH IN EBONYI STATE.” It is well known that Anglican Faithfuls who happened to know this Diocese will be interested to know how far we have fared, where we were before and where we are today to sincerely pray for where we shall be tomorrow.

In the Inaugural Synod of this Diocese on 8th February 1998, it was stated categorically that Abakaliki Diocese was born as a result of pragmatic and grassroot evangelism. To keep this vision alive and active, Prime Priority was given to evangelism. Thus, Lay and Ordained in the Diocese were enjoined to embrace this goal. “You know our goal. It is to please God and to encourage others to do so by responding positively to the great commission. It is a corporate goal to be pursued by all and with all and for all”. It is to build human beings who will later build Cathedral and Halls.

At 10, the Diocese which fagged on with two (2) Archdeaconries, Abakaliki North and South, Comprising of Fifteen (15) Parshies gave birth to three (3) Missionary Dioceses: Ikwo,Afikpo and Ngbo. Glory be to God.

The Diocese which started with Zero Business Investment is consolidating her efforts in livestock, Printing Press and other Industries. Our effort in academic and other social institutions cannot be over-emphasized.

After the creation of the three (3) Missionary Dioceses, we have repositioned ourselves by creating and formally inaugurating additional Parishes and Archdeaconries to move the gospel forward and to evangelise the unevangelized people and places.

The kingdom of God is our goal.
